The Dahlgren Chapel
CMHL acquired the Dahlgren Chapel in 1996 to preserve its special significance as an
historic site.
Today, private services and weddings, recognized by the State of Maryland and approved
by the CMHL Board of Directors, are held on the grounds or in the Dahlgren Chapel. For
more information or to inquire about these services please call (301) 371-7090. Funds are also needed to help maintain the Chapel.
There are four projects in the works at present
for which the Central Maryland Heritage League is urgently seeking financial support. The
Dahlgren Chapel is in desperate need of a new roof. Conditions have
deteriorated to the point where the interior of the chapel is in danger of permanent water
damage if the roof is not replaced soon.
Funds are needed for the demolition of the brick house at
Turner's Gap and for the reclamation of the land once the house has
been demolished. Moneys are still needed to meet the matching grant for the Lamar Center in Middletown. The State of Maryland has pledged $100,000
for the purchase of the Lamar Center if the Central Maryland Heritage League can raise the
same amount in private funds.
There is always South
Mountain Battlefield to protect. There
currently exist the opportunity to purchase and reclaim 9 acres of prime "Iron
Brigade" battlefield. But because there is a house on the site that would need to be
removed the land is too expensive for the regular battlefield protection programs that
currently exist.
All funds contributed to the Central Maryland Heritage League are tax deductible. If
you are an individual or part of a corporation that seeks the benefits of a large
charitable donation then we hope that you would consider donating funds for one of the
above mentioned projects. |
